Employee Spotlight: Maia Cocallas
Tell us about yourself and how long you’ve been with Optimal Dynamics.

I’ve been with Optimal Dynamics for a little over a year now, and I bring more than 10 years of HR experience working with tech companies of all sizes. I’m originally from Chicago (Go Bears!) and, after living in seven different states, I now call Austin, Texas home. I’m passionate about building strong people programs, supporting teams, and helping create workplaces where employees can genuinely thrive.
Can you briefly summarize your job?
I oversee Human Resources, which means I get to focus on one of the best parts of Optimal Dynamics — our people. I manage everything from benefits and culture to hiring, talent development, employee support, and overall HR strategy. My role is about creating an environment where people feel supported, engaged, and set up to do their best work.
What inspired you the most to join Optimal Dynamics?
What stood out to me right away was the energy and authenticity of the people. During the interview process, it was clear that Optimal Dynamics genuinely prioritizes its culture and invests in its team. I was also excited by the chance to help shape a growing company and build out the HR and talent function. And as a tech person at heart, the AI-driven work we’re doing in logistics really caught my attention — it’s innovative, meaningful, and has a huge impact on the industry.
What do you like best about our company culture?
I love that our culture combines ambition with real care for one another. We move fast, but we do it in a way that keeps people connected and valued. It’s a place where curiosity is encouraged, achievements are celebrated, and everyone feels part of something bigger.
What is unique about what we do at Optimal Dynamics?
What’s unique about Optimal Dynamics is how we use advanced AI to solve real, complex problems in logistics — work that creates a meaningful impact for our customers. And we do it while staying grounded in strong culture and people-first values, which is a rare combination in a fast-growing tech company.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is that every day brings something new — no two days ever look the same. With a company that’s growing as quickly as ours, there’s always a fresh challenge to tackle and new ways to improve how we do things. The rise of AI has also introduced a whole new layer of complexity and opportunity in HR, which I find both exciting and energizing. And of course, the best part will always be the people … I can’t say that enough!
How does your work impact our product, and, therefore, the industry?
My work impacts our product by making sure we have the right people, support, and culture in place to build it. By hiring great talent, developing our teams, and creating an environment where people can do their best work, I help ensure our product continues to innovate and scale. When our people thrive, the product thrives — and that ultimately drives the impact we’re making across the logistics industry.
What have been your biggest accomplishments on our team, and what was the impact on the company?
One of my biggest accomplishments has been supporting our hiring and growth. Since joining, we’ve significantly expanded our headcount and continued opening new roles, which is no small feat in a competitive talent market. Bringing in top talent has strengthened our teams and accelerated our ability to scale. A major milestone was hiring our Talent Acquisition Manager, Anna Rochelle Bader, whose partnership has been invaluable in maintaining a high-quality, efficient hiring process as we continue to grow.
How have you grown professionally while on our team?
Being part of a rapidly growing company has helped me develop stronger strategic and operational HR skills. I’ve had the opportunity to design programs, support expanding teams, and adapt quickly — all of which have helped me grow as a leader.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a big traveler, so in my free time you can usually find me planning my next trip. I’m also a foodie (and a wine lover!), so I love exploring new restaurants around Austin whenever I can.
Can you share a hidden talent no one knows about you?
My hidden talent is being a fearless travel planner — I’ve taken two solo trips to Africa (Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Uganda). So, if you ever need an itinerary or restaurant list, I’m your person.
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who wants to work at Optimal Dynamics?
My best advice is to be ready to challenge yourself and embrace new ways of thinking. Optimal Dynamics is a place where curiosity and creativity really matter. If you love solving problems and growing quickly, you’ll do great here.
