Employee Spotlight: Alex Shamray

Tell us about yourself and how long you’ve been with Optimal Dynamics.

Hi, I’m Alex, and I’ve been with Optimal Dynamics for the past three years, living in San Diego, CA.

Can you briefly summarize your job?

I am responsible for deploying infrastructure, developing backend services, organizing and maintaining the company's data lake, and ensuring data integrity and seamless flow.

What inspired you the most to join Optimal Dynamics?

The opportunity to apply my knowledge and experience in deploying scalable services and data management systems. In addition, the flexibility of the working environment and an excellent team of professionals to work with.

What do you like best about our company culture?

I like that Optimal Dynamics is a company built by a combination of scientists and engineers, as well as trucking industry professionals, where maintaining a healthy work-life balance is valued. I enjoy seeing people collaborate, support each other through challenges, develop innovative projects, and solve complex problems.

What is unique about what we do at Optimal Dynamics?

Witnessing our engine enhance decision-making for transportation professionals with decades of experience is truly unique. And I believe this is only the start of our growth.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I find fulfillment in designing, implementing, deploying, and validating solutions that are often incorporated into the daily routines of other engineers. I also appreciate the support of the team, opportunities to learn new technologies and frameworks, and the feeling of contributing to the work of others.

How does your work impact our product, and, therefore, the industry?

Our customers rely on our platform stability. We ensure our Service Level Agreement (SLA) is satisfied by constantly improving our extensive monitoring system. The ability to scale on demand provides a seamless customer experience. I'm proud to be part of the team that makes this possible.

What have been your biggest accomplishments on our team, and what was the impact on the company?

I was instrumental in the implementation of our data lake solution and remain a strong advocate for data storage practices that facilitate efficient and effective presentation and analysis. Since adopting Preset for our charts and dashboards deployment about a year ago, our reporting and analysis utilization has grown exponentially.

How have you grown professionally while on our team?

I enjoy challenging tasks that push me to expand my knowledge and expertise while also learning new skills or technologies. The IT industry is constantly evolving, and much like in Lewis Carroll's Alice's world, one must continually run (and learn) to stay current. I feel more confident in my ability to solve complex problems and provide solutions for demanding projects.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Keeping Alzheimer's at bay with activities like hiking, photography, and playing piano.

Can you share a hidden talent no one knows about you?

I think it’s yet to be discovered — ha-ha! I believe all of us have talents waiting to emerge, and it’s through persistence and practice that a hobby can one day become a talent.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who wants to work at Optimal Dynamics?

Be ready for challenges, don’t be afraid to ask for help, grow your expertise by practicing real-world applications and be curious how things work under the hood.
